Hall 2 Night Cycling September 25, 2006

It took me quite some time contemplating whether to go for this night cycling event, but eventually, i finally made the decision to go, and i did not regret it.

We started off a bit late, ard 12+, and i am in the Integra Team, led by Basil and Jaime. We started with a group of “chiongsters” and “laggers”. So there had been quite a few times we had to stop to wait for the rest to catch up.

So sian my handphone camera doesn’t come with a flash.

Our first stop from NTU is the kranji reservoir. Took us quite some time to reach there, cycling through a lot of very ulu places. We travelled along jalan bahar towards sungei gedong, then along neo tiew, passing by some mysterious places and finally to our first checkpoint.

We managed to get a long long rest over there, until we head for our next checkpoint, chong pang nasi lemak. It’s another long long journey along the mrt tracks in woodlands.

Good thing the good food wakes me up for the journey ahead - The Singapore Drift.

It’s actually the seletar reservoir. The place is quite scenic, we can see malaysia at our left, and our right hand side is a welly lit golf course. Too bad my phone doesn’t have flash, else i could get some good pictures of the place.

Such a coincidence i saw in the chinese newspaper today that the golf course at selatar is so cheap it’s only charging $40 per pax on weekends for non-members!

From there we move on along seletar camp towards jalan kayu prata place, our next checkpoint. Along the way, we cycled passed the old seletar airbase and camp. It’s also the place where we had the barat timor run when i’m still in NS. The place is so nice, a bit rural, having a taste of old colonial buildings beside the peaceful reservoir. Hmmm…. i must visit the place sometime again, hopefully sometime soon.

We rested for 10mins at jalan kayu. Up next is our final destination - Punggol Beach! Finally! Over the journey, it’s quite easy for me to keep awake with the refreshments along the checkpoints. The night breeze kept me cold enough to keep awake too. But it’s around 6am when we got in jalan kayu, and i’m starting to get tired already. Nevertheless, i told myself, this is the last lap, i must definitely finish it! Yeah so with this mentality, i kept on. There had been many times i wanted to just doze off, but i know i can’t.

The last lap is a long one…. A left turn from jalan kayu, we can see one of the punggol lrt stations and reach there within a few minutes. At first i thought it’s only a short journey, despite basil warning us that the most “siong” part is ahead of us. We took quite some time cycling alongside the LRT tracks. As we are passing along the LRT tracks, i was thinking why are there so many LRT stations along the way, which have nothing except trees, grass, and more trees. Not even a single building! Are they going to develop the place? How come i see no signs. Nevertheless, the air is so fresh there with all the greeneries, it’s definitely a good place for morning jogging. Which maybe is the reason for the LRT stations - to let the joggers go back home when they got tired, HAHA.

The last lap for the journey are 3 consecutive steep down-slopes and up-slopes. Good thing the down slopes start first, i just had to cycle very fast down and the momentum rides me up the slope. Crazy lap too. I just gather all my speed down the slope, even passing by the team infront of us. And finally, our final destination!

Got “dou jiang you tiao” for breakfast. And my thighs are hurting…… finally, it’s time to rest. Not forgetting my faithful partner for the journey -

my bikeAnd lastly, thank God for keeping my journey safe and tired-less.

Way back to hall on bus!
