飞乐时空 (Music Express) is an annual song writing competition organised by NTU’s chinese society, and this year, i am the publicity main comm for the event. Go take a look if you are currently a student or ns personnel, who is interested in composing songs or simply wants to try writing lyrics, just click on the image above!

Last friday is Geyong’s last activity, so we got this “歌咏争霸战”. Simply singing competition, tat’s it!

Everybody gotta go up and sing. Even got groups go up sing their Malaysia’s school school song :p

Got 5 different prizes, all by voting. Actually, the one i got is shared by 4 persons, haha, all same no of votes :p

so i ate a lot :p

Woohoo! Today is the day for Geyong’s Lunch Time Concert and the launch of Fei Yue Shi Kong 2007!!!!

Venue: NTU Canteen A
Time   : 12.30pm to 2.30pm

And heading for the performance is Melvin singing his original composition - Yi Ge Wu Yan Xia (一个屋檐下) ! Watch out! This song is sold to and sung by Evonne Xu Hui Xin yo.

Right next is Shan Shan!

Oh and btw, i’m manning the stall for FYSK playing last year FYSK’s video. Can see the superstar Diya also took part!

Next up is Fuli singing Kok Song’s OC - Lan Hao Ren (滥好人).

Alvin and his partner is going to perform the song - kao an (靠岸), just look at the crowd…… Wow! A lot leh!

His singing is very good, even huiqi asked who’s he! haha

Wah, i think i am very very left out of the chinese music world. I went past a shop today at marina square, and i heard one of the songs of yesterday’s performance, which i thought is an original composition. :p Wah! Just went back to see the list of original compositions we got, ok, 2 of the songs i thought was original compo are actually pop songs sung by artistes already. So i quickly update my prev post. haha!

Hey hey, today is the day of my performance. It is over at the “Ming Ge Can Ting” called “Ai Qin Hai“.

And that is the booth for admission.

Haha, when i ask them whether i can take a picture of the booth, our attendents say ok, and ran away from my camera, wah lau eh, so shy.

Hei hei, and there’s the banner for the performance hanging over at the side.

I reached late today, but somehow, the rehearsal have not started yet, so i am free to take pictures of the interior again.

Nice place, with a very taiwanese reminiscent. Think it’s becos the ming ge can ting concept is originated from taiwan ba.

Soon a little while, the rehearsal began…..

At around 4pm, the audience had seated down,

and the emcee is there to address the audience and start up the performance.

Wah, bad picture ain’t it. Guess i still don’t really know how to use my phone’s camera appropriately.

The first song is “Ka Fei Pao Mo”, or “Cuppocinno” in english. Written by our cute guitarist - Edwin. This time it’s sung by Liping and chorused by xiuxian and huiqi.

Nice song, very light and refreshing. A typical girl’s song. And btw, this song won the 2nd place in the 7th Xin Qin Rong Ji competition, as well as the best lyrics and best arrangement award, don’t play play ah!

Second in row is “Gou Gou Shou”, sung by xiuxian.

Come next is a combination of 2 songs - “Jie Tuo + She’s gone”, it’s actually only one song, but sung in 2 languages. Singer is jesslyn, accompanied by huiqi. Weilin’s on the guitar also this time, she plays very well.

Then it’s my turn le….

A slow song, in a very hip hop, r&b synonymous name - ye ye ye ye, or (night * 4) in english. I’m the one on the guitar. Hey i’m really not photogenic, legs open too wide, not nice. So i decided next song concentrate more on my seating posture…..

Ok, fifth in row is “ru guo de shi”, sung by chun mei.

After that is “shuang shou”, our keyboardist, melvin, is singing and playing the keyboard.

Btw, he’s the one playing all the drum beats for the other songs, giving more life to the songs, and leaving the audience wondering who’s playing the congo.

Next is huiqi singing “Gao Du Nan Ti”, another original composition.

Next in roll is Edwin and a senior - shun cheng, with the original composition - shou zai zhe li. Then this senior came out with a lame joke - jiao zai na li.

Oops, it’s me again, playing the guitar, with Liping and Sufen, singing Xing Guang You Le Yuan, by Twinz.

also helped by melvin playing the drumbeat and edwin, for the melody part. This time, i tried to pay more attention to my seating posture, but end up not concentrating on my music. Dah!! then melvin reminded my to be a bit softer, then i finally forget my image and concentrate on my music, haha. But the song already halfway thru le. :p

Then, it’s weilin singing another original composition, oops, i forgot the title of the song le. This time the genre is more alternative with a little bit of rock essence. Suits just her “seh”, haha, my writing very singlish hor.

Up next is “Ning Xia”, sung by 3 girls, a pretty combination. Haha, like SHE, very cute and very lively.

Next is edwin’s original composition again, entitled “xin li you gui”, haha, what a name.

Oh, btw, the title means “got something itchy in his heart”, it’s about a guy and a gal, who have been quite attached, but both already have other boyfriend/girlfriend le. Hmm…. the person who came out with the lyrics is feeling guilty? hehehe…..

Up next is melvin solo again, this time is the song - hei se you mo. Nice one he did.

Full of expression yeah? A bit funny when he sang one part of the chorus, which is super high octave. Well, he managed to reach it though. And he even captured the attention of an “ang mo” passer-by, who stood at the door filming his performance! Wah! How can?! Piracy! Hahhahaha…..

Then kok song is interviewed by the emcee for his next coming original composition - Yi Ge Ren Chang KTV.

This is his first composed song and he won the champion for the 8th Xing Qing Rong Ji competition, wow!

Indeed a nice one, very karaoke friendly. A bit like Eason’s “K Ge Zhi Wang”, same genre, same mood, same sadness. Hey, maybe he can sell the song to some famous singer to sing and become famous and rich! Hahahahaha….

Ok, 2nd last song, “Yi ge xiang xia tian, yi ge xiang qiu tian”, sang by huiqi.

Hmm…. a lot of the original compositions are in the light, refreshing pop genre….

Ok, i v tired liao, gotta quickly finish this blog, else tmr cannot wake up for service.

The last song is also another original composition - Xiang Ni Ai Ni…Ai Ni Xiang Ni, sung by xiuxian. Hey, she’s got the vocal as well as the “seh” to be a diva, maybe she should join the project superstar 2, haha.

btw, this song is composed by shun cheng and it got into the finals of the 8th Xing Qin Rong Ji competition and the 2nd place of the song writing category of Impresario’05. No joke, this song solid sia.

Ok, that’s it, end of the performance. Oh btw, that’s the drink the audience got, together with the ticket of course.

I am a member of NTU’s Chinese Society Geyong group, and i am going to have a performance this saturday at Ai Qin Hai! Haha, well, i’m not a fervent member there, I am usually only there when there’s performance, :p. Er… hihi, also around sometimes so people will know of my presence, :p. Don’t know the people there well, so just like that is enough i think, haha.

Ok, so i am supposed to be at the music clinic for this saturday’s rehearsal. Hmm… this is my first time there, only knew it presence a few days ago when huiqi asked me to go. Basically, music clinic is a company inspiring people towards singing, playing and composing chinese pop music by giving lessons and providing a condusive environment for people to gather to …. make music. <http://www.themusicclinic.com.sg/>

So i brought along my best guitar, and find my way there with only some faint memories of the directions given by edwin. At first, i just remember ….”exit at outram, walk along people’s park complex, then cross the road at where the snack stall is….” then …..er…. dun noe. Then i saw This Fashion, oh yah, then i remember, walk along the road. So i blindly walked….. looking left and right, trying to locate their sign board. Until the end of the road, don’t have leh….. die. Oh, then i saw the 7-11. Yah! i think he mentioned something of 7-11. I tried to walk to the left for a short distance, nope, it’s not around there. Then to the right, still don’t have. Oh no…… Then i turned, aiyah, it’s jus beside me now. Haha, it’s located at some kind of old “cheena” looking building.

Haha, good. I found the rest of the performers at the 2nd level, cramping inside a small studio. Got around 8 people, plus me 9. There were practising their songs already, self-composed ones, quite nice. Melvin has the best seat, cos his the keyboardist. Hey, he’s good with it, can play normal piano style and drum style, somemore arrange the songs on the spot. Edwin is playing the guitar, and weilin is singing. She’s got the style. A little later, a few of them left the room, so i can practise with my partners.

Haha, this saturday is the performance, today is thursday, and this is the first time i met one of my 2 vocalist, and the first time we practised! :p. Our song is Xing Guang You Le Yuan, by Twinz, a hong kong pop idol group. A fairly simple song, with a catchy rythme, and very easy-to-remember chords, and easier to catch melody. We managed to get it ready with just a few trys, hehe.

After which, other people’s turn to practise le. So i am free to start my photo-taking for this blog, yeah.

This sat’s performance is basically one of the events for the Fei Yue Shi Kong <http://www.musicexpress12.com>, or music express in english. I think also to get some funds also bah. Fei Yue Shi Kong is a annual song writing competition organized by ntu chinese society geyong group, registration is open to all students, something like nus’s Xing Qing Rong Ji.
