Hong Kong tea restaurants have been popping out in every corners of Singapore, but only a few of them are worth mentioning. For most of the hong kong tea restaurants i visited, they are more disappointing than pleasing. So when my friends introduced me to this Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room, i was quite sceptical of the quality.

I was quite surprised to see that it’s fully packed when we reached there, even though it’s a friday night. And the queue was like quite long, that makes me think that either their food is really good or their service is just too slow. Nevertheless, the service is quite prompt, and the waitress have the initiatives to provide us the menu to decide what to eat while we are waiting. Though the queue is long, we didn’t have to wait very long until we got to our seats, maybe around just 10 minutes or less.

As the name suggest, their milk tea is really good. Its rich and smooth, combining the tea’s fragrance and the mild creamy taste of evaporated milk. The flavour of the milk tea is perfect, and it’s not like the other milk tea you get from coffee shops and even other hong kong tea restaurants. I’ll give 5 stars just for this milk tea alone.

The eastern part of Singapore is filled with many places of great local delicacies. From Liang Seah Street at Bugis, all the way to the Nasi Lemak at Changi Village, this part of the island is dotted with many great eating places, livening up the street scenes of Singapore to live up to its name as a food haven.

Bedok Market Place is one of the food havens i get to know about just quite recently, it is located near Bedok Road, around 200m from the main road, which is the Upper Changi Road East. It’s somewhere between the Tanah Merah MRT station and Expo, and it’s quite within walking distance from the Tanah Merah MRT station.

Bedok Market place is like lined up with many eating outlets, serving local delights of roti prata, satay, roti john, zi char, western, etc etc. There’s a whole stretch of tables lined up in front of the shops, and customers are free to seat anywhere along the stretch and order food from any of the stalls, without restrictions, like a hawker center. As most of the stalls are operated by the malay communities, the food here are mostly halal certified, attracting lots of malay folks to dine there with their wide variety of choices. Nevertheless, it also attracts many non-malays to gather there for dinner and sessions of chit chatting. Tables are plenty, and if you can’t find one along the stretch, there is another whole stretch of tables along the other side of the shops.
