Digital Design Fiesta is the anchor event for the special project cca i am involved in. It is a showcase of the ipod nano skin designs, filled with free goodie bags to giveaway, programmes to keep people entertained, and booths for the sponsors to make them feel better contributing to it (haha! :p).

I realised i forgot to bring the sponsored coupons for the goodie bags when i was half-way walking to the mrt! Oops, no choice, have to walk back to get them. Nevermind.

I reached Civic Plaza at ard 10am, luckily, almost everything has been set up.

overall

So the first thing i did was to get the event jersey and lanyard, and get changed! Haha, free t-shirt, jersey some more, yeah!

This is our headquarters.

After which i started to load the goodie bags with the coupons i bought. Simple thing right? But i was sweating profusely, simply because the weather is really too hot. I had to make time doing it batch by batch, so to keep myself physically cool. hehe, chao keng a bit, i missed out some, intending to put them in at the time of distribution, save my strength, :p.

Then occasionally, more flyers from the sponsors are to be filled into the goodie bags, so i had to spent some sweaty time again. Then while i was resting and relaxing watching people setting up booths and performers doing sound check, it started to rain. At first i thought, rain, then rain loh, nevermind. Then i saw our guys shifting the goodie bags on the floor.

So i went over, trying to help, and also to see why. Sian, the water is dripping and flowing from the higher places, making the goodie bags wet also. So no choice, we had to shift them. Some were put onto the stage, the rest we stacked on our booth table.

:p four storeys high, like a castle, haha.

So after which i’m free again, zuo boh, so went around taking pictures of the booths.

booths

We got Starhub, iShop, PC Magazine, HP, Wacom, whosgoing.sg, etc etc, but really not much.

The actual event started late, due to the performers doesn’t have enough time practising and doing sound check. Nevertheless, the performances are quite good.

There’s one of the jam bands in ntu, Stentorians, to kick start the event.

Then Chrong Meng, the chairman for this event, went up to speak a few words.

And later it was followed by more performances. Oh and btw, the rain stopped.

Got dance.

One more band from NTU, King Kong Jae. They got the groove!

And also students from Lee Wei Song Music School.

Then, seeing that i’m quite free, i was given a huge stack of flyers to give away, oh no :p.

Spent almost an hour near the traffic lights near the traffic light between taka and paragon there to distribute the flyers. Actually i’m tasked to go espirit there, haha, but i too lazy to go so far. At first i thought it’s gotta be easy, nah, faced a lot of rejections. Not much people want to take the flyers, even in the mention of free goodie bags. Then, i got an idea…… i gave out 2 at one go, but displayed as one, if you get what i meant. Haha, play cheat.

I went to distribute flyers 3 times today in total. Then i was backed to catch the Jing Bao Yue Tuan in performance.

They seemed quite good, really. Got groove, got style, got voice. I liked the bassist more, he’s got the defining type - coolness.

Ok, after the prize presentation, there’s not much more le. Really nothing to do, eat lor. Got free catered food, not bad, all are finger food. Then we discovered there are still boxes of goodie bags yet to give away. Haha, quite stupid, we immediately distribute them all to whatever people in our sight. Then the Old Chang Kee poeple took a lot at one go, i think got 10+. But they still keep coming back for more. Hey! free also no need to take so much leh, u want to give to all your relatives ah? Haha, nvm, at least they helped us to clear much faster, haha.

I didn’t stay throughout the event though, it ends at 8. Nah, i went off at 6, leaving with a bag of goodies and 3 starhub toy dogs. :p

Fund Raising for Animal Lovers League July 17, 2006

Wow! I’m backed to Animal Lovers League again on sat, just one day after my last visit. This time, i’m not there to play with the dogs or bringing them for a walk, i’m there to help in some fund raising.

This fund raising is to raise money for the medical treatment and vaccination for the dogs at Animal Lovers League. This is very important as the dogs need to be healthy so that they wont be needed to be put to sleep. And as they take in more dogs, which some of which might be really in need of treatment cos of their ex-owners’ mishandling, there is a need for more money to feed them and treat them. Not including that the cost of the place is already a huge bomb. Human love and time is also very much needed to tend the animals, feeding and tending, cleaning and adminstration, giving love to the animals. The dogs are very much in need of love as much as you and i do.

The event supporting this cause is the National Dog Walk 2006 (http://www.mattleah.com/index.html) organized by Mattleah Canada. It is held on the 6th of August at West Coast Park, in conjuction with the Singapore National Day. Dog owners can register for $5 and get a goodie bag and a lucky draw chance on the day of the event. A contribution of $15 will allow the owner to receive an additional doggie t-shirt.

So the main thing i did was to help manning the booth at pet movers (http://www.petmovers.com.sg/), which is also where Animal Lovers League is. Well, there isn’t as much crowd over there on saturday than sunday and we didn’t get much contribution, only got 5, but at least all bought the T-shirts. Our booth was quite pathetic at first, only a foldable round table and 3 chairs, that’s all. Nevertheless, Marcus managed to get a sarong as a table cloth, and he came back later again with a flourescent yellow cloth.

Haha, we managed to make it look a bit better, by displaying the T-shirts on the table as well as on top. Hehe, managed to get quite a few attentions, though not everyone participated. Some say need to ask wife, some say they are not in singapore at the event day, some don’t know why they will be, etc etc. Nevertheless, we’re quite enjoyable manning the booth, spent time fellowshipping, looking at dogs, watch people training their dogs, etc. I was thinking of what are their breeds, what breed of dogs would i own in future, and which dog would i want to adopt next time (which is still a few years down the road)….

There is a new dog - a dalmation! But it looks more like people leaving him there for a while rather than abandoned.
